Ditto. That's what I've been thinking as well. Neil Young sprung
to my mind as someone that took huge artist risks and failed big
time, at times, so one might say he was inconsistent. But, I mean
they still were more part of his strange process then not having the
creative spark to write a good song (I assume).
Conversely, I've actually had a harder time agreeing with people's
lists of consitent great songwriters per I could think of songs that
clunked (to my mind) by most of them. OK, for me I have most of
Richard Hawley's work and he comes close to my ears for the sound
he's going for but still, a short career thus far.
Yeah, I would agree with the sentiment that a consistant song
writter with a long career would be hard to find.
