When I started this thread, I was thinking of the glaringly obvious examples...not the veteran songwriter who puts out the occasional clunker.
In any event, it's just a silly question on an e-mail discussion group that has nothing to do with our real lives.
But I must admit I've found it quite interesting!

Good call. And a shame, too because he's brilliant.
Can we expect genius from our favorite songwriters for periods of forty
years or more? Is it realistic? A lot of the people mentioned so far gave us
some of the very best music ever made during their times. Are we that
petulant to still ask for more when we've been given so much?
