This has been an interesting thread to watch
(not surprisingly,
it only took, what was it?
a matter of minutes
for the words "Paul McCartney" to appear ;-)
Yet personally speaking,
I honestly cannot think of one single songwriter
whose entire catalogue I can rate as "consistent"
(whatever that means),
and that includes Lennon and/or McCartney, Jagger/Richard(s),
Brian Wilson, Holland/Dozier/Holland, Jimmy Webb, Bacharach.....
But is it not precisely these, um,
Bumps in the creative Road as it were
that keep most of us curious,
not to mention faithfully and, yes, Consistently tuned right in
to the work and careers of a B. Dylan, N. Young, or P. Townshend
to name but three off the top of my ear canal?
Y'see, I just don't expect every single day to be sunny and 78,
every book or movie to have a happy ending,
or even every A&W TeenBurger Deluxe to have that precise heavenly
balance
of cheese to the patty for that matter!
Coz it's these lovely anomalies which make life (AND music) interesting,
"without the pebbles on its bed the stream would have no song"
(as Carl Perkins always said),
.....and I wouldn't trade ya three "Wings Wild Life"
for an entire crate of Cheap Trick remasters,
So There !!
Gary "but I DO firmly believe CT to be a better LIVE band now than ever
before,
if that'll get me off the hook in any way whatsoever" Pig
