I was listening to an interview with Ben Vaughan regarding his recent instrumental album "Designs In Music" (highly recommended, BTW) on NPR and he mentioned he was inspired by the Palm Springs, CA radio station KWXY and its "beautiful music" format (Mantovanti, Percy Faith, 101 Strings, etc). Both me and my Dad are fans of this stuff, so I thought it would be cool if he could stream the station on his PC. However, the KWXY website posted the following message. Can some of the more music biz knowledable members of Audities verify if what they have posted is true?

Thanks,
Mark

Why You Can't Listen To KWXY Here...
Regrettably, KWXY has joined thousands of other radio stations who have been forced to discontinue streaming on the internet. The recording industry has recently been authorized to charge each station that streams recorded music unrealistic rates for each record played. For a very popular station, this cost could exceed $3000.00 per day. These charges are in addition to the extra BMI, SESAC, and ASCAP rates we must pay for the privilege of streaming.

We feel that no music station will be able to pay these outlandish charges. If and when this is challenged in court and the recording industry begins to charge a reasonable rate, KWXY will return to the internet so that our far away friends can enjoy us once again.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
