Hey Mike,

I'd love to see what you could do with the audio... And would be happy to
get you a wav. You wouldn't happen to be in Tampa would you? LOL. You could
come by and help me.

Tomorrow I am going to rerip the vinyl as I screwed up after I sampled the
audio and saved it in adpcm format, then I ran a click filter on it in Adobe
Audition and then saved it as the highest quality variable bit rate mp3 they
supported. I'd forgotten that adpcm reduced the 16 bit samples (I sampled
the song at 44khz 16 bit sample stereo) to 4 bits. So tomorrow I will rerip
it to a pcm wav and try again. I'll put the wav up for download somewhere
for you. I'd like to get this down well as I have about 200 old 7" very rare
70s and 80s new wave things I'd like to convert. I still have 6000 7"
singles I bought directly from bands or bomp or somewhere during the 70s and
80s.

As for playing the song I put up on my site. There is an audio section in
the menu, you need to be logged in to access it, but you can press play or
right click to download. You need flash to access the player. If you have
trouble let me know and I'll make a direct link to it somewhere.

I am not sure if this single was ever released or not. I have a scribbled
note from way back when that reads "I can tell b/w Modern Lover (Bubble
Records)" so I assume it was released. I have several copies of an earlier
fools face single also on bubble records: Way Back in 78' b/w Will To Live.
The A side is a McCoy song and the B side is a frink song. I think I bought
copies of this from the band when they stayed with me late in the year in
1978. I believe the single had just been released and that "way back in '78"
was a joke as it was released in 1978. A year or two later when the band
stayed with me again they gave me the test pressing of "I can tell" but I
can't remember if they said it actually came out or not. I have old contact
info for all the members so maybe I'll see if I can get in touch and find
out.

There were also a couple of fools face flex singles included with trouser
press that I have, but all released stuff. I also have a lot of studio and
live fools stuff on tape. Including a studio version of "I Live Alone" my
favorite dale song, plus the classic live fools songs "Mommy Likes To Kill"
and "Program". The latter 3 I plan to transfer also. I also have the first 3
albums, including a few extra sealed copies of tell america and public
places.

FYI, I just took a pic of the earlier fools single, way back in 78. You can
find a picture of it here:

Gary

Very interesting this "find". Was it on any of their LP's? I don't recall
that song, specifically. I'd love to help you restore the 45 to pristine
condition if you like. I've been working on an algorithm that removes 72
different clicks and pops. Nothing gets thru, then I remove the groove
noise and TT rumble using spectral subtraction (not EQ!). Be happy to run
it it thru if you can get me a .wav of it.... How do we download or listen
to it on your site? not clear there.

I know some of you will be intererested... I've been playing with ripping
vinyl. Should have a bunch of cool stuff in a few days, but last night I
ripped an old Fools Face single called "I Can Tell". It's up in the audio
section at my site if anyone is interested. http://www.garylittleton.com

As far as I know this was the band's second single. It's a Jim Wirt song
(Won't make it hard, even angels fall, etc) and I believe Dale McCoy or
Jimmy Frink of the band gave me the test pressing of the 45 when the band
stayed at my place back in 1979 in Houston. My test pressing has the same
song on both sides, but I assume it was actually released as a single. Does
anyone know if this is true or not, and if so what was the B-Side?

Cheers,
Gary
