Just a note for the fans. Myself, and my college dept (multimedia) is
meeting with Donnie to create the authoring for the DVD's which will end up on the
box set. Similar to the Sonnie & Cher set, it will be 3 discs full of campy
fun, and a bonus Christmas disc will be included in some/most sets. unclear on
that one yet. But it'll be out there somehow. The delay has been apparently
the rights/royalties etc. on the people that originally worked on the show.
That being negotiated, the shows can finally come out. There were 72 shows
total, 10 hours of which will be released (bummer its not more). Side note for
the Audities Audio fans is that it will be mixed for stereo, and 5.1, and for
the hardcores, the original mono broadcast audio. Apparently he has the
original 24 track tapes from the show to edit and remix. Nice! Plan your upgrade to
5.1 if you haven't already. What fun.
And to those who groove on Donnie bashing, I have to say, after meeting
him backstage several times, and been to his house to review mixes, he truly is
a wonderful human being. I mentioned how some folks on this list are
pilfering tracks from the old records for their cover bands, and he seemed pleased
that there were folks out there rediscovering some of those old tracks. (I also
mentioned the gentle Owsley mention on "Oh No the Radio" - found that
amusing) I also mentioned I had collected the whole Kolob records set sans the 2nd
christmas LP, and he dissappeared and returned with a stack of his CD's, some
unreleased. What a super guy. A Genuinely nice guy who really understands
what's going on in the biz. He's constantly reinventing himself. You'll
probably see more of him on TV as they begin promotion of the set. If he comes to
your town on tour, go see the show - truly revealing and entertaining. Really!
I've reached my self-imposed 2 paragraph max, so I'm out.
Get the box set when it comes out (Ent. tonite said tonite Aug, but that'd be
a bit tight given the work outlay). hopefully sept for sure. It'll be worth
it.
