I've experienced this in the past and it's been solved with an 
uninstall/re-install of Nero.  Most likely a corrupt driver I'm thinking.

If you've installed any programs recently that conflict w/ the Nero driver, 
you can always use the "restore" feature of XP to put your system back to an 
earlier date.

If you want to nail it down to a corrupt Nero installation/file, you can 
always burn a few tracks using Microsoft Media Player (I know, the worst 
burning software interface known to man).  Assuming these play fine, you've 
at least eliminated any hardware issues or blank disk issues.
