Hi,

It seems that in Arkansas, anyhow, the independent record store is a thing of the past.

I really miss Hot Dogs in Jonesboro, AR. I shopped there when I was in college, and Kenny and Mike turned me on to a lot of good new stuff. I was trying to be a Hair Metal kid (which I'm coming to the conclusion nothing was wrong with that music anyway: not the best albums always, but their singles can play with any eras); but they kept things interesting by turning me onto Love and Rockets, Midnight Oil, The Black Crowes, Dickie Betts, Don Dixon, Katrina and the Waves, and others I'm probably forgetting.

Hot Dogs is gone now, as is Little Rock's "Discount Records", North Little Rock's "Peaches Records", and Pine Bluff's "Record Rack".

The only independent that I can think of at all is "Arkansas Record and CD Exchange" which is more of a used record trading shop, but is really a cool shop. The owner Bill Egginton seems to be really knowledgeable about music. But it's not really a place to find out about new music.

  Peace,

  Live it Large
