The biggest problem there IMHO is which subset of my collection needs
to be portable. Let's face it, when you've got 15k songs and 1Tb of
storage EVERYTHING is a pain in the ass. In a way it's the same
problem as deciding what to put on a mixtape or a CD-R, just a
different target.

That's a different issue. I use a little thing called "jhymn" which
deals with the Apple DRM issues quite nicely.
