You can hear an archtypal Go-Betweens song, "Cattle and Cane," at
www.littlehits.com

The Go-Betweens sound is built on a Lennon/McCartney type of stylistic
tension: Grant McLennan's songs tend to be sweet, jangly pop tunes
with a little country influence and a lot of acoustic guitars. Robert
Forster's songs are a little tougher and spikier, and more electric.
R.E.M. and the Smiths are often mentioned as stylistic touchstones,
much more because of the guitar style than the vocal style in either
case.
