I fear for the ears of the kids who strap their iPods on for hours per
day. In line at the Subway just minutes ago a girl got a call on her
cell phone and unplugged one of her earbuds so that she could take the
call. In a voice loud enough for a rowdy mosh pit to hear she
carefully explained that she was getting lunch and her MRI wasn't
until three o'clock, and so the cat would be fed on time. After she
hung up, I hollered over at her "I hope you're planning on feeding the
cat *before* the MRI -- those things can take an awful lot longer than
expected." She was genuinely astonished that anyone overheard her end
of the conversation. And yet the entire restaurant did. This kind of
thing happens more and more frequently, and it's always late
teenagers/college aged kids who seem to have already lost significant
portions of hearing. I think it's the damn earbuds.

Anyone know some good hearing-aid manufacturers I could buy stock in?
