The Foundations were another of many groups whose record labels didn't share 
the spoils of war so it became far easier for them (and individual members 
controlling the name) to re-record the song for another label and attempt to 
recoupe some of their popularity/revenue. The Grassroots were another act 
who notoriously re-recorded their entire output again in the '70s.
