I'd forgotten about this song... LOL. Thanks for reminding me.
I can't believe no one has mentioned it (or maybe I missed it), but for me,
the classic is an aussie football anthem called "Up There Cazaly" which I
think might also be the largest selling single in aussie history. Now that's
a football chorus. I put a copy on my site for play or download...

You've got to include the best song that captures the spirit and that would
be "Football" from Neil Innes and Eric Idle. I don't know if the album
"Rutland Times" ever made it CD but it was one of my favorite vinyl
purchases when I was a kid. Here's the lyrics from Idle (thirty years ago
and still timeless):
