I'll preface the following
by saying these are strictly my own personal experiences,
but when The Ghost Rockets first hit the road out of Hoboken in the
dreaded mid-Nineties,
Beatle Bob was one of our earliest, most enthusiastic, and by all means
most HELPFUL fans:
We'd already made the odd convert here and there to our (then) odd sound
(Eric Sorensen in the D.C. area and Bill Lloyd in Nashville immediately
come to mind,
as they helped spread the advance word and supported our earliest gigs
in earnest).
And like them, when we first arrived in St. Louis to play the
TwangFest(ival),
Beatle Bob was THERE (along with our good pal Jordan Oakes, btw).
Sure, Bob did his dance, had a good time, yada yada,
but more importantly by far
he made a point of catching up with us outside in the parking lot
afterwards,
critiqued our performance most knowledgeably, imho,
then besides simply waving us adieu with encouragement
he went that extra few miles by promising to contact us later with
names and numbers
of clubowners, DJ's, writers etc. who could help further our mission.
And not only true to his word on that,
but a year later when we returned for TwangFest Two
(this time as semi-headliners),
Bob brought an entire batch of pals along to cheer us on,
including one quite influential local program director who played a big
part in our subsequent career.
As I said, this is all just my personal experience,
but I most definitely count Beatle Bob amongst my most favored circle
of trusted and admired Pop Pals,
and he continues to keep in touch on a near weekly basis,
always turning me on to good new sounds and people.
so,
Long may he, um, dance,
Gary "now then... what about NARDWUAR ?!!" Pig
