Curiouser and curiouser. Looking for any reason to not be working on
actual work, I decided to track this info down, and I found an
interview with the writer of the Robotman comic (which is now an
entirely different comic called Monty), Jim Meddick, in which he
claims that Peter Shelley actually came up with the entire Robotman
concept, originally designed as a Japanese-style licensing product
along the lines of Hello Kitty or Mr. Dob! Apparently, when the
Robotman licensing concept fizzled, Meddick was left with this comic
he'd been handed, which he slowly transformed into the rather odd but
amusing thing it is now.

I've grown to vaguely know John Southworth over the years -- I'll have
to ask him about this the next time I speak to him!

Other Peter Shelley stuff I know: his solo singles sound oddly like
Cat Stevens, and I *think* his connection to King Crimson is that he
signed them to Island when he was an A&R guy there.
