NEW YORK DOLLS PLAN COMEBACK
Glam-punk pioneers NEW YORK DOLLS are back in the studio prepping a new
as-yet-untitled album, to be released in June. Singer DAVID JOHANSEN and
SYLVAIN SYLVAIN are the only survivors of the notorious '72-'75 lineup.
Guitarist JOHNNY THUNDERS died in 1991, drummer JERRY NOLAN in 1992, and
bassist ARTHUR KANE in 2004, a month after reuniting with Johansen and
Sylvain for two shows at London's Meltdown Festival. With the present Doll
lineup rounded out by additional guitarist STEVE CONTE, bassist SAM YAFFA
and drummer BRIAN DELANEY, the new tracks have a different raunch than the
mascara of the original Dolls' glitter classics. Sylvain told Rolling Stone
of the band's sound, "When you took off the makeup and spiked heels, at the
bottom of it all, it was the blues."
