If you live in the SF area, I know there are several copies of this
album in the Amoeba clearance section. I picked it up there myself a
couple of weeks ago after it had come highly recommended by one of my
favorite Eugene bands, The Fast Computers. The only thing is, mine
appears to be self-titled and the title you mentioned is the name of the
first track. My copy is on HUSH records (hsh059, is the catalog number).
I realize you might have this only electronically Stewart, but is it 9
tracks long? Nothing much to add to your review - I would simply concur
that if you like those influences, this would be worth a listen.

I'm listening again to the debut album by Parks and Recreation, WHAT
WAS SHE DOING ON THE SHORE THAT NIGHT?, and I'm thinking this might be
my favorite record so far in 2006. It combines all of the things I
like about folks like Belle and Sebastian, the Divine Comedy, John
Southworth, the Decemberists, the Wedding Present and the Monochrome
Set while minimizing the things I dislike. (Actually, I can't think
of anything I dislike about John Southworth and the Decemberists, who
are the artists this album reminds me the most of, though I know there
are things about both that bug others.) The songs are clever and
occasionally dryly funny, but not in an obnoxiously showy way, with a
lot of orchestral touches in the arrangements but a solidly guitar-pop
basis to the melodies. I should think that if you like more than one
of the bands listed above, you'll find a lot to like here.

Parks and Recreation are led by Michael Johnson, who used to be a
one-man-band called Reclinerland: when he finally got a stable band
lineup, he changed the band name.
