Well, if what Brian Curtis said is true and Screen Gems owned everything, it
might have been a matter of what they were willing to purchase the song
for...outright...as opposed to entering a licensing deal...in which case
you're right, there would have been some serious inbalances in the
acquisition of certain songs. Can't imagine Neil Diamond songs were cheap.

Ouch! That must have been a long time ago....standard deals are much higher
now.
