I think that the best consistent songwriting was found on the classic 2-LP
This is the Moody Blues. Their albums contain some pretty heinous excesses
that are more or less contained on that compilation.

Their catalog has been the object of frequent revision with multiple mixes
appearing in multiple formats. And of course their cultural cachet was
sealed with their appearance on the Simpsons some years ago. They wrote a
few pretty good songs and perhaps we'd like them better if they hadn't
overstayed their welcome well into the 80s.
