Exactly right.

Also exactly right.

Yep! You even chose exactly the right phrase: your user homepage has
a stoplight symbol on it. Green means you've sent more than you've
received and you're due to get more CDs in trade. Yellow means you've
sent as many as you've received. Red means you've gotten more CDs
than you've sent out (it looks to me like you can be up as much as two
before your want list is frozen) and you need to send more to get
more.
Something I haven't mentioned is that you also can only send so many
CDs out at a time: at first, you're only allowed to send out five
discs. When you have five CDs marked as "Sent," your Have List is
frozen so that you can't see how many of your discs are wanted, until
the people you've sent them to acknowledge on the site that they were
received. (Most people do this the day they come in, as a courtesy --
after all, they want people to acknowledge what they've sent out too!)
After that, the limit is raised up to 10, but as far as I can tell,
that's the upper limit: you can only send 10 CDs out at a time. For
example, seven of the discs I've sent out in the last week are still
marked "in transit" on my homepage, so I could only send out three
more discs before my Have List was frozen.
As far as I can tell, it's just a matter of equilibrium, and the more
CDs there are on your Want List, the less likely you are to be shorted
by trades: I have, let's see, 289 CDs on my Want List, and my
experience has been that when I agree to ship a CD out to someone,
another person agrees to ship something out to me pretty much within
the hour. (What's interesting to me is how many of my Have List CDs
are wanted by other members at any given time -- this seems to range
between 90 and 130 at any given time.)

I *should* point out that I'm unaffiliated with LaLa except as a
member! They're not paying me to do this, I promise.
