<< Lane Steinberg, The Return of Noel Coward's Ghost. Lane's bios call
Noel
Coward's Ghost his "XTC-like" outing. This record reminds me more of
the Dukes
of Stratosphere than XTC though-- but it isn't 60s retro, its fresh
psychedelia
for the 21st century. So it reminds me of the Dukes, but not the
influences of
the Dukes (well, sometimes it does.) And he's used snippets from old
films
about musicians to weave a sort of cautionary tale about using your
musical gift
to make hits for the people, in between the songs (and as intros to
them) that
comes right up against cheesy, presses its nose up against the cheesy
window,
but walks away without buying anything. >>
Those snippets
are all actually from one film!
As The Man Himself
just revealed to me.....
"The CD was completely done & ready to go. I had dinner one night and
turned on Turner Classic Movies.
'Rhapsody In Blue' was on (The George Gershwin Story) and I kept
hearing all these great lines
and the whole concept hit me square in the face!"
I shall be blogging more about this amazing CD
(already sure to be one of my Tops of 06)
over at Lost In The Grooves asap,
Gary "but first, the new Jandek just landed in my mailbox..." Pig
