I was one of the early skeptics regarding the whole New Cars project. I
still am not crazy about the concept, but believe that Rundgren will do what
Rundgren will do - that is, always the least expected thing. I do like what
I've heard of the New Cars, but I am not going to attend one of these
high-priced concerts. I don't blame that on Todd, but rather the greed of
10th Street Management - they're attempting to duplicate their recent
success with last year's Motley Crue reunion/tour by assembling this Cars
(excuse me, NEW Cars)/Blondie package thinking that nostalgia will win out.

I attended a show during the "Liars" tour two years ago, and was thoroughly
entertained. Being a Rundgren fan is always challenging, but more often
than not rewarding - I will admit that it can take time for those rewards to
become evident. The people that are casual fans will never get it, and
there were plenty of those in attendance at that concert certainly didn't.
I know that a lot of fans would have preferred the rumored Utopia reunion
tour, but there are issues that could not be resolved (in particular a feud
of sorts between Todd & Willie Wilcox), and last but not least if people
aren't going to Todd Rundgren concerts, who the hell's going to see Utopia?
Again, I will point the finger at perceived nostalgia as opposed to allowing
the artist to grow. Granted this artist is an obstinate character, and
therefore is less likely to pander to that nostalgic element of his
audience.

The one idea that almost came to fruition and may yet in the future is a
proposed tour featuring Rundgren and Donald Fagen. They are friends, and
have talked about doing work together. (In fact they did record an Al Green
song together which is available as an exclusive iTunes bonus track with
purchase of Fagen's latest album.)

Regardless, I think continuing to complain about how Rundgren should do this
or that, or whining about the supposed integrity (or lack therein) of the
New Cars is pointless. Either you like the music or you don't - the rest is
just sh*t.

Brioohs
