The original artist was The Postal Service, and the song is on their 
album, Give Up.  As most of the list will doubtless already know, The 
Postal Service is half made up of Ben Gibbard, from Death Cab For Cutie. 
  The Iron & Wine version of "Such great heights" was also used in the 
excellent Zach Braff film, Garden State.

And I have to disagree with your assessment.  The original track is a 
thing of incredible beauty.  The cover is quite cute, but I don't think 
the style fits the lyrics as well as the original.
