Easily my favorite album of 2004, way up there in any list of my
favorite albums of the last 10 years or so. Brilliant, brilliant
stuff.
What else: a 2003 demo album called NELLIE MCKAY has early versions of
most of the second disc of GET AWAY FROM ME, most of which are very
different and some of which are way better. ("Inner Peace" in
particular I greatly prefer in its demo form.) I first got into
Nellie when (former?) auditeer Deb Albericci mailed me a copy of this
disc in the fall of 2003, rightly saying that I was going to adore it.
Her second and final Columbia album, PRETTY LITTLE HEAD, is out there
if you know where to look. It's gotten a Bit of Torrential praise,
hint hint.
And as Ken says, the RUMOUR HAS IT soundtrack is available on iTunes.
These songs aren't on PRETTY LITTLE HEAD or GET AWAY FROM ME.
I'm also hoping that the current revival of THREEPENNY OPERA, in which
Nellie plays Polly Peachum -- kick-ass casting, that -- will make a
cast recording.
