I second the motion for Bill Evans. And as for a currently-active (and
hugely prolific, despite being HIV+ for some 20 yrs) pianist in a similar
vein, seek out Fred Hersch. And by the bye, he has a smattering of albums
available on eMusic. He did a Billy Strayhorn tribute album entitled
"Passion Flower" on Nonesuch a few years back that is utterly sublime.
