Guitar Center is part of the Musician's Friend Mail Order Empire. They
certainly employ the Wal-Mart approach to retailing. As Ron points out their
employees are generally lacking in knowledge of the items they sell. I
bought a pair of monitor speaker stands from them and had to explain to the
salesman what they were for. However, if you know exactly what you want
their prices are good. I try not to buy from them since I generally need
some informed direction. I do enjoy their "vintage" selection of guitars for
sale. Not that I would buy one from them since their prices on these items
are usually 150% of their actual market value.

Anyway, they are a long established company and know what they are doing.
And if you're in the market for a decent Squier Stratocaster you can't go
wrong.

FWIW - they frequently offer items for sale on Ebay under the moniker GCREP.
Stay away from these auctions since many, many times they misrepresent what
they're offering.

Bobby Sutliff
(a guitar whore for sure)
