All great suggestions - I would have to second Amplifier only because I
think it's more power-pop oriented than the others and also will cover some
singer-songwriters, Americana and other genres that apply (i.e. Robbie
Fulks, Tweedy, etc.). I deleted your original note but think I remember that
as your target. Otherwise I would have piped in with the same list (I
subscribe to all of the above except Amplifier and Under The Radar) as well
as The Big Takeover, Ugly Things and Harp. I wouldn't line a birdcage with
Spin, and Rolling Stone is a glorified Gap ad (although I have a long-term
subscription to the latter that costs me about 25 cents an issue...so maybe
I will get a bird). CMJ, Classic Rock, Alternative Press also can be worthy
on occasion.
There are so many webzines, though, that as long as you have a couple of the
above for bathrooms and plane rides you should be able to find out about any
band when you're online. I often occasionally blind-dive onto CDBaby and
MySpace and always find something new and interesting.
