emusic finds:
Stewart said
I don't know who Spain Colored Orange are, but their lengthy EP called
HOPELESSLY INCAPABLE OF STANDING IN THE WAY is filled with organ,
electric piano and horns, and for some reason that I can't quite put
me finger on, it reminds me hugely of 10cc circa THE ORIGINAL
SOUNDTRACK and HOW DARE YOU. Good stuff.
I down loaded two tracks and I will be getting more. Thanks for the
tip, they sound very cool.
Sorry, if any of you are burning out on emusic chatter. I am a newbie
and I'm really enjoying it. It's a little to addicting (just ask my
wife).
Admittedly, I've been slow to join the MP3 world of downloading and
so on.
So, what's been fun for me (and I'm sure for most of you already)is
sampling artists and then going back to dig deeper if I choose.
FWIW:
Artist's I've heard of in the past but have not deeply explored for
some ignorant or financial reason:
Wreckless Eric (To my surprise, this is who is totally knocking me
out, with lovely warts and all. I'm loving every song I've heard thus
far. I will be digging much deeper)
Ian Gomm
Andy Pratt
Descendents
Long Ryders
(more but these come to mind)
Another advantage is to me is for albums one loves but may not NEED
the entire album. Thus, albums one had but did not quite picked it up
again per this fact
So, albums that I had back in time and really enjoyed but REALLY
missed certain songs that I loved...
Graham Parker "Real Macaw" (Choice cuts: "life get's better", "you
can't take love for granted", "passive resistance", anniversary").
For my money this is his most underrated disc. I wonder, could be
wrong, if a happily married Graham Parker was not what people were
wanting at that time. Not that it's all bliss on the disc but it sure
has it's moments of love and contentment. Life get's better yeah...
They Might Be Giants: I really liked their first two discs. I have
LINCOLN and really like it. Still I don't think all songs on either
disc are by them are "essential". So I was very pleased to see their
first disc on emusic: (Choice cuts: everything right is wrong
again", "put your hand in the puppet head", "don't lets
start", "rhythm section want ad", probably a few others I'll need)
Gary Numan: ("Cars", "Are Friend's Electric", "Film"). To me both
cold and silly at the same time. So dated and yet, oddly fun to hear
these songs again.
Anyway, thanks to email these are all putting a smile on my face.
Back to the physical world that I usually frequent.
Like Michael (and now I see others too!!) I sampled Not Lame's new
Willie Wisely disc and I'm putting my order in too. It sounds
terrific Bruce. Congrats on your involvement!
Anyway, from the samples I've heard, I'm betting this will be a fav
of many folks here.
Best, Steve
The sound you may be hearing is my head banging against the wall for
not seeing Willie during his many years here in Minneapolis. He was
really a local critics darling and yet I still never ventured out.
THUMP (pause) THUMP.
Oh, and one for the Jah Guide Gabe..
Via a recent free Napster deal...
I recently rediscovered the song "Ingland is a B@tch" by Linton Kwesi
Johnson. Anyway, any thoughts on where to start for more in this
vein by him?
