I have a Phillips 642 also... This hack works on mine... The zero can also
be replaced with the region code, if you want to set it back. Here is
another msg about the hack copied here for your info:

1. Turn on the player.
2. Open the tray.
3. Press the following sequence on the remote:
7 8 9 OK 0
4. The number 0 will appear on the lower left side of your screen.
5. Your player is now region free! Put in a DVD and enjoy! :)

NOTE: The 0 in the sequence above represents the region code. 0 = region
free. If you want to change your player to just a specific region code,
replace the 0 with the region number you want.

On this model, it's as easy as:
Open DVD tray, press 7,8,9,OK,0

That's it! The model I bought is the Philips 642. Like I said, only $60...

Oh yeah, one other this about this model. In addition to playing CDs, CDrs,
DVD, DVD+Rs, mp3 discs, it also reads discs with .jpgs, .avi, and Divx
files. That means if you have any programs in Divx or .avi, you don't have
to convert them all to DVD format to watch it on the player. So I can load
up an entire series season of a show on a single DVD+R. If transcoding to
DVD format, it would easily be 5, if not 6 discs.
