(2) to this very day, I've witnessed no less an expert of our genre as
Tan
Sleeve perform a most Bacharachian version of "Take Your Clothes Off
When
You Dance," one of Frank Zappa's most powerfully popful melodies EVER.
And nobody
seems to have noticed -- or cared to protest -- yet.
<< I would kill to hear Tan Sleeve do that song.It isn't recorded by any
chance?Wow, what a great idea. >>
It's right there on their "White Lie Castle" CD, Gene
.....alongside thee DEFINITIVE version of that fab Harrisong "Wah Wah,"
btw
("TYCOWYD" is also on the great Japanese "Lane Steinberg Collection"
from EM Records).
<< I have a theory that a lot of country songs could easily be
power pop songs with a little tweaking of the instrumentation
and tempo. Or, I could be suffering from rectal cranial
inversion 8^). >>
Not at all, Greg !!
again, them Ghost Rockets had true hoots doing exactly that
(with the almighty Buck Owens songbook most successfully ....and
painlessly too).
This particular trail leads both ways, of course:
We had actual (Euro) turntable action with our maximum rhythm 'n'
bluegrass "In My Room,"
not to mention a totally Poco-ized "Paperback Writer."
Our extreme-country "Love Rollercoaster" slayed 'em in Nashville too,
believe you me,
Gary "PS: the Hamburger Beatles 'Cry For A Shadow' works extremely
well rearranged for pedal steel as well ....and did I mention our
Stones tribute '19th Nervous Hoedown,' featuring none other than Chris
the Breetle??" Pig
