The Mothers (of Invention).

no, Really!

Coz when he wasn't much too busy being all things to all listeners
(potty-mouthed cynic, grating neo-classicist, pretentious jazzbo, or my
own personal fave: the greatest guest host the Arsenio Hall Show ever
had), Frank Zappa could honestly, flawlessly create some damn true
pure-pop gems of the near-three-minute category ....once you stripped
off all the facial hair and other assorted accoutrements, that is.

Two quite personal cases in point:

(1) at very early Ghost Rockets gigs, we would regularly delight in
inserting our tasty alt-western arrangement of "Jelly Roll Gum Drop"
(off Ruben and the Jets) into our sets. Seemed to fit most seamlessly
indeed, I kid you not, right there between "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere"
and "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round," and

(2) to this very day, I've witnessed no less an expert of our genre as
Tan Sleeve perform a most Bacharachian version of "Take Your Clothes
Off When You Dance," one of FZ's most powerfully popful melodies EVER.
And nobody seems to have noticed -- or cared to protest -- yet.

PS: and Let it hearby be known that one of our very own esteemed SoCal
Auditeers can be found spending most every waking hour whilst stuck in
freeway traffic movin' and groovin' to one of the greatest clandestine
collections of Mothers music this side of Matt Groening.

really,

Gary "the present-day poster refuses to know commercial potential" Pig
