Been digging around a little... So here's a few more notes on werner...

Here Werner has a current bio. Looks like he does some A&R for this company.

http://www.ufomusic.org/bios.html

Werner also wrote Cradle of Love for Billy Idol, and a song for heavy
rockers Halifax (can't remember the title) that he meant for John Waite. Oh
and yeah, the third werner album on epic had "can't imagine". That album was
also produced by bob clearmountain, who I've also enjoyed. He did the
production on one of my favorites the first Diesel park album that just got
reissued and that Bash mentioned in his list. Here is a Werner note from
somebody's blog that I thought described him well.

Cheers, Gary

<<About five years ago I had no idea who David Werner was or that he made
music. Then someone turned me on to Whizz Kid. Released in 1974, when the
glam/glitter rock scene was starting to run dry, Whizz Kid proves that there
still was a little life in the genre. While Whizz Kid isn'’t groundbreaking,
Werner turns out some great songs by drawing from the best. He mixes Bowie
with Big Star and Marc Bolan with Mott. His guitarist, Mark Doyle, has a
style that sound somewhere between Mick Ronson and Johnny Thunders - a nice
clear, drugged out, dream wail. And Werner's voice is both sly and snide.
The lyrics are your typical rock star take on groupies, being a star,
romance, and loneliness.

Whizz Kid has a few duds, but it is still an above average rock & roll
album. It is a shame that the record is so obscure (though easily obtained)
it is a great listen. It also helps put lie to the Brit's claim that they
saved rock & roll. What is there to save when the body is healthy?

And, what about Werner. Well, he did a record shortly after Whizz Kid, which
I've yet to find. He put out a self-titled "New Wave" album in 1979, which
is surprisingly listenable. Then he disappeared. A correspondent once told
me he was doing British Music Hall stuff. I later found out he'd produced a
few things as recent as 2002.>>>

<<< David Werner - s/t. released in 1980 (as I recall), he had earlier done
two glam albums on RCA in the early to mid 70's. Whizz Kid was the far
better of the two and was a strong effort (Imagination Quota was the second
release). But it was his foray into New Wave where he hit his stride. This
album is still in my books one of the catchiest, guitar-driven albums in
pop. And then he disappeared.>>>

Was this the album featuring the song "Can't Imagine"? Great song!

Also, The Supahip's version of the song Wouldn't It Be Good" - where have I
heard this before? I see it's written by Nik Kershow - did he release it
originally?

And -- I put Bowling For Soup Goes To The Movies on my best of 05 list. Has
anyone else heard this disk? It's not a great CD by any means, but it IS
enjoyable. They include a number of covers that I like, and their originals
are quite catchy as well. I picked this up on a whim, never having heard
much of anything by them except for their cover of "Melt With You" that is
played to death on the Disney Channel (I have a 4 yr old daughter). So I
saw this CD for cheap at Media Play during their close out sale, and there
ya go. Loud and rocking guitar oriented power pop with harmonies, folks.
Sometimes goofy and or bubblegummy, always hooky. I find myself singing
along to most every song, which is more than I can say for a lot of other
"heavier" stuff -- so it made my list. I don't know if they have anything
else worth owning, guess I'll have to check...
