HI

Melissa Connell from the Heaters (anyone remember them?) told me this story:

Maggie, Mercy and I were summoned to meet with Spector at his mansion in LA.
He'd gotten a copy of the 4 track tapes and liked "American Dream" and
Mercy's voice and the harmonies. So we went there one night. It had a Gothic
look to it with a fountain in front that was dry. One of his body guards,
wearing a gun, answered the door. We were accompanied by a fellow named Art
Fein who was the connection to Spector. Art is a long time friend and loves
The Heaters. Anyhow, Wagner was playing as Phil descended a huge staircase,
dressed all in black with a Beatles wig on and Beatles boots. We went to a
piano in his living room and started going over the song. Maggie played the
piano. As we sang the song the body guard came in and put his gun down on
the piano and happily nodded his head to the music. While Spector stood by
the piano he kept looking at himself in a mirror on the wall. Then we went
to sit down and talked until about 4 AM. There was a full bar but none of us
felt like drinking in the weird atmosphere. Phil's advice was to concentrate
on what you do best rather than trying to get better at what you're not so
good at. A couple of dogs came into the room. We love dogs so we were
petting them and talking to them, then we saw Spector looking very pale. I
asked what the dog's names were and he had the body guard take them out of
the room quickly. Suddenly I realized they were probably attack dogs. It's a
good thing no one said the attack word by accident. He kept disappearing
upstairs. He said he had to make overseas calls. Well, maybe, but I think he
was doing drugs. We had a reputation of being very clean as far as drugs go
so he didn't want us to know. He told a story about Carole Kay a woman bass
player who played on all of his sessions. She would always wear a dress but
would sit with her legs apart so they could see you know what. He would
signal to her to put her legs together.

Weird but true!!

Robert
