re: Mod Lang

Paul called me a few weeks ago to tell me about his upcoming move. He
seemed very happy to find a new space with a good lease. His current
landlord had made if difficult for all the tenants of the building to
continue there. I think the foot traffic on University wasn't what it used
to be. The new site is also close to Down Home Music, another great shop,
so it'll be more of a record buying destination. The only other Berkeley
option was Telegraph Ave, which isn't the most fun place to work.... I
spend a year there in 75-76. I think it's still the same scene.

I think I've only bought a couple of things on Amazon, just things I
couldn't find otherwise. Maybe stuff from Enoshop and DGM too. The bulk of
my new buys were from Mod Lang. The rest of my buying was used stuff, found
mostly on my out of town trips.

I'm always going to support a brick and mortar shop. I can't imagine a day
when there were no more. I do think lots of shops just stopped being fun to
visit. Full of junk, lazy clerks, and no excitement. Still, I love digging
through racks of stuff looking at records I've never seen, and scoring good
deals that have escaped the watchful eye of the records geeks running the
place. I find I have the advantage these days when shopping. I've already
got the stuff that they have priced high, and I have a good eye for the
items that might not be on the radar of the collectors or sellers.
