Top 20 CDs of 2005

1.	Teenage Fanclub/Man Made

Lead track "It's All in My Mind" is also #1 song of the year

2.	Bruce Springsteen/Devils & Dust

Sparse, but still melodic. A great companion to Emmylou Harris' "Red
Dirt Girl"

3.	Rogue Wave/Descended Like Vultures

Great leap over their debut

4.	New Pornographers/Twin Cinema

As long as there's a new NP release, there will be room in my Top 5

5.	Nada Surf/Weight is a Gift

Some say not quite as good as "Let Go"- I disagree- it's just as good

6.	Go Team/Thunder Lightning Strike

Funnest (sic) CD of the year

7.	Alejandro Escovedo/Room of Songs

Beautifully arranged live set with a string quintet. With all his
critical recognition, he's still vastly underrated

8.	Super Furry Animals/Love Craft

Less psychedelic than recent releases. Sounds like they've been
listening to Gamble & Huff songs.

9.	Echo & the Bunnymen/Siberia

Comeback of the Year Pt. 1

10.	Fiona Apple/Extraordinary Machine

Comeback of the Year Pt. 2

11.	My Morning Jacket/Z

I admit I do get a bit tired of the reverb vocals, but you can't deny
the strength of the songs.

12.	Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Howl

Sound like they've been listening to The Band instead of Jesus & Mary
Chain

13.	Brendan Benson/Alternative to Love

One of the most consistent power poppers around. Looking forward to
hearing his full length collaboration with Jack White hopefully out in
2006.

14.	Supergrass/Road to Rouen

Guitars are only cranked to 6. Is this their "mature" CD?

15.	M. Ward/Transistor Radio

This guy seem to be getting better with each release

16. 88/Over and Over

Excellent power pop.

17.	Checkpoint Charlie/Songs One Through Twelve

Miss Jellyfish? Check these guys out.

18.	Primary 5/North Pole

Nice surprise set of excellent pop tunes from ex-Teenage Fanclub drummer

19.	Ry Cooder/Chavez Ravine

Underrated song cycle of Los Angeles. Beautifully arranged and
performed.

20.	Neil Diamond/12 Songs

Comeback of the Year Pt. 3

MP3 of the Year

Pat O'Brien voice mails

This is what makes the internet so great.

Video Files of the Year

The Farting Preacher Pts. 1-5

Again, I'd like everyone to email Al Gore and thank him for the
internet. Without it, the Farting Preacher wouldn't exist. These are the
definition of sophomoric, but they make me laugh each and every time I
watch them. Do a quick Google on Farting Preacher for more info.

EP of the Year

Neon/Hit Me Again

3 killer originals plus a Cheap Trick cover. Damn V2 for not releasing
the full-length in the U.S.

Reissues of the Year

Bruce Springsteen/Born to Run: 30th Anniversary Set

Hands down reissue of the year. It would probably be deserving of this
spot for the remastering job alone. The 2 DVDs are icing on the cake.
Very very sweet icing.

Merry-Go-Round/Listen Listen: Definitive Collection

Stooges/Stooges

Stooges/Funhouse

Soundtrack of the Year

Soundtrack/Thumbsucker

I'm not a huge Polyphonic Spree fan, but these score-like tracks are
really well done. And the 3 tracks from Elliott Smith (an original plus
a Big Star and Cat Stevens cover) are achingly beautiful and worth the
cost of the CD alone.

Discs on Several Best of Lists That I Still Need to Listen to More

Darkness/One Way Ticket to Hell

Sufjan Stevens/Illinois

Hold Steady/Separation Sunday
