Cathy,
I can see that. It plays with some VERY touchy scenes with children
in (I feel) an odd, innocent kind of humor (but I see and agree with
how this treads in very dangerous waters in terms of this and could
easily be to offensive to people)... As my wife said..."My guess is
this is a director who doesn't have children" per it's hard to
imagine a parent having scenes like a few she has with children and
also some scenes with teenage girls. I also wonder how people would
respond to this film if the director were male. I think even I
forgave it more per knowing it was a female's point of view (as odd
as that might sound).
Anyway, Cathy I know you may have seen this per my recommendation
on another list we are on. I'm sorry if I didn't give you ample
warning of it being a potentially disturbing. It is disturbing. I
agree it treads disturbing waters but also has some real touching
moments and moments of cinematic beauty (to me). I mean the principle
characters are, if not disturbed (him), certainly odd (her). I like
that it leaves you wondering where it's going in a way few films do
and I thought the dialogue was very interesting and often funny.
Plus, I like films that give you a mix of opposing feelings at the
same time while you watch the scene (when it works AND is intended).
It is an unsettling film in some ways. Anyway, I'll use your post to
give this warning to anyone else who might be considering it.
Thank you.
