1. Tody Castillo - s.t.

I haven't heard much talk about this guy's music on the Audities list; time
to change it. This musician from Houston has delivered a brilliant album
with 14 melodic tracks that once heard will keep you humming them for the
rest of the day. Some tracks are pure power pop, but there are traces of
soft pop (reminds me of Adam Daniel), rock and even some altcountry
influences (Ryan Adam fans listen up). 'Extremely highly recommended' to
quote Not Lame (who don't even carry this one!?).
2. Caleb Engstrom - Building Day One

Not at all power pop; far from. But a great album nonetheless. Recorded and
produced by a 20-year old artist with his influences ranging from Nick
Drake, The Beatles, Sufjan Stevens, Leonard Cohen and Elliot Smith. Delicate
melodies, sparse instrumentation and intricate lyrics. Favorite tracks:
3. Aviatic - Arrival

This band from Burbank, California evolved from Beat&Path who released a
couple of EP's a few years ago. Some of the best songs of Beat&Path were
redone (more rock, less acoustic) and added were a couple of new songs (with
Stroll as my song of the year).
4. Michael Mangia - The Invisible Wall

5. Jack's Mannequin - Everything In Transit

6. Bill Ricchini - Tonight I Burn Brightly

7. Perishers - Let There Be Morning

8. Robert Post - s.t.

9. Coldplay - X/Y
10. The Soundtrack of our Lives - Origin Vol. I
11. Posies - Every Kind of Light
12. Brendan Benson - The Alternative To Love
As you may notice from this list, MySpace has played a good part this year
in discovering new music. Thanks to all of you who sent MySpace links to the
list this year of bands or artists I hadn't heard before. I guess most of
the artist above I discovered either through links from the Audities list or
by checking out 'friends' of those artists.
Have a great 2006 with some fantastic new music! (with a new Adam Daniel? A
new Wondermints?)
