Here's my faves from this year.

1 - Jeff May - Confessions
Beautiful songs, playing and singing, brilliant production and Paul Hester's
last studio performance add up to the best thing I heard all year.

2 - New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
I've liked all their previous albums. I love this one!

3 - Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Same here. Kill The Moonlight was a fave, but Gimme Fiction is just better
again.

4 - Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
I'm a sucker for a "project". If the next 48 state tributes are as good as
the first two, it will be the most impressive body of work ever! I'm not
confident that anyone can keep the standard this high for that long but I
will enjoy it while it lasts.

5 - Pernice Bros - Discover A Lovelier You
Initially this one didn't strike me like The World Won't End did, but I kept
finding myself putting it on. Now I'm glad I persevered.

6 - Kaiser Chiefs - Employment
Fun

7 - The Darkness - One Way Ticket To Hell and Back
In the year of the Paul Rodgers/Queen release "Return Of The Champions", the
best Queen record was released by The Darkness

8 - Rogue Wave - Descending Like Vultures
A record that I just "liked" when I first heard it, but I have to put it so
high on the list just because of the number of times I've returned to it.

9 - The Deathray Davies - The Kick and The Snare
I love this band. Pure Pop released one of their record a few years ago but
"The Kick and the Snare" is their best so far in my opinion.

10 - The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers
I really like this one a lot.

11 - Stars - Set Yourself On Fire
If the second half of this album was as strong as the opening half, it would
be higher.

12 - End Of Fashion - End Of Fashion
Aussie band, pretty heavily hyped by EMI, who I resisted but eventually gave
in to.

13 - Tim Oxley - Kitchen Songs
His previous album was a top 5 in my list a couple of years back. I didn't
like this one as much but still think it's better than most of the CD's
released by anyone else.

14 - Quantic Soul Orchestra - Pushin' On
Great party album.

15 - Baxter Dury - Floor Show
Is it 'cos I miss his dad?

16 - John Dufilho - I Remain, As Always, A Rabble Rouser From The Mountains
Lead singer from the Deathray Davies releases a batch of home recordings and
experimentations. Don't love it all but the good stuff is great!

17 - Calexico/Iron and Wine - In The Reins
Does a 7 song EP count?

18 - Sing Sing - Sing Sing and I
Emma from Lush's band. Discovered it late in the year, considered putting
it higher but figured it might be a "new love" thing.

19 - Love As Laughter - Laughter's Fifth
A pleasant surprise. I liked the cover and ordered a copy.

20 - Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - Naturally
Great singer, great band, great album!

Cheers

Dave
