Thanks to Stewart, I have sampled some Decemberists tunes - while they are
not exactly my personal taste, they are a good band, and the vocalist is
indeed a quality singer.  After listening a bit, he reminded me most of
Gerry Marsden from the Pacemakers with a little Al Stewart on the side.  I
heard nothing poor in his singing - if anything he doesn't sound like anyone
else current, which is a good thing as it helps give the band its' own
identity in the marketplace.  I also enjoyed their song arrangements,
although at times the instrumentation sounded a bit empty (at least compared
to what I am accustomed to).  I wish them success as they are certainly
better than a lot of the stuff that's out there.
