When we go to the mall for lunch on Tuesday to check out the new releases as
HMV - there is very rarely anything I want, but they have a lot of classics
on for 10-15 bucks, so once in awhile I'll grab something. But the guy I
work with who is thirteen years younger buys a couple of new releases every
week - dozens and dozens of bands I've never heard of. Mostly modern
emo-ish stuff, punk, and a bit of indie pop - and there's some labels he
follows like I used to follow Estrus and Get Hip, etc. All his stuff is
prominently displayed and sale priced and well stocked - and he has little
or no interest in the stuff I listen to. If an HMV in Saskatchewan has 10
copies! - I think there's probably a whole crapload of new bands doing just
fine. He goes to lots of shows too, all ages shows at venues I've never
been to (and would feel out of place at), and I think they get good
turnouts. The new crop is out there and thriving and I don't like them and
they don't like me! Just the way it should be!
