Hi Michael,
Yes, for me it was sort of a slow grower in that it took two
spins, to be exact, for it to win me over. Then, as they say, I
couldn't quit playing it and it keeps growing or sounding as fresh,
with repeated listens. So, I could see where song samples wouldn't
capture him very well. For me the disc has a quiet depth to it that's
hard to describe. But, as you've heard, his voice is a baritone and
the music has a dream like (yet straight forward) quality. So, it may
not grab everyone on this list but if that sounds intriguing, I can't
recommend it higher.
I remember a long time ago a discussion over the lasting power of
an artist one likes. The question being, will you be listening to and
loving them in 5-10 years? I know I will be listening to this disc
over that time frame and beyond.
