I'm almost certain it was Rex that played Tampa in the mid-seventies quite
often as lead singer of a band called Trix. I remember seeing them twice at
a dive somewhere on Nebraska avenue. Were actually pretty good. Played some
ziggy bowie covers (suffragette city for sure) and a few originals. 

Come to think of it, I saw Tom Petty at the same dive before his first album
came out on shelter records.

business in a local paper with the following catchy tagline:
