While I'm waiting for my Curry dinner to cook..
Radio Birdman are still great... I saw them three years ago, and have been told
they have only gotten better. I was telling Bobby that they really need to come
to the US. I think people would be surprised at what they sound like. Most
bands that cover them or pay tribute just skim the surface. Those songs are
really complex. A few years ago Deniz was fixing some guitar on the, now
shelved, dvd. He stopped a couple of times to ask ME if I knew the chords!!!
Anyway, they are headed into the studio in a couple of weeks. I was invited to
lend an ear, but I had some important business here I couldn't ignore. I've
heard some of the new songs. They've been working on this since I saw 'em. I
actually got to sit in on a three song session they did while on tour. One of
the tunes was What It's For, which is also on the Golden Breed album I
released. I suspect it'll get redone with the new drummer.
Radios Appear is a fantastic album. I missed seeing them in London '78 by a
couple of weeks. They were touring with my pals the Flamin' Groovies. Would
have been funny to have met Deniz 20 years earlier. I did get to hang with the
Groovers, who were broke bummed and well dressed.
The reason they never made it was because they broke up in the summer of '78,
just when people were just starting to notice. I don't think Sire did much with
the album. Not many copies pressed, and no promo since they didn't play here.
It screwed up the release of Living Eye, which is also a good, but dark and
gloomy album. If you haven't you'd best get the cd reissues on Citadel.
That's all I know, and it smells like my dinner is about ready
