Assuming that the drummer's grandmother and Ray Cash were first cousins, that'd make your drummer friend Johnny Cash's second cousin once removed.
I figured that you wouldn't be able to sleep until you learned the answer. ;-)
I saw the movie as well, and I thought it was terrific. Joaquin Phoenix didn't really nail The Voice, but he's a dynamite actor. And Reese Witherspoon kicked butt in both the singing and the acting departments.
