Got to see my man Marshall Crenshaw this past Saturday, where Cliff and I
enjoyed the show with fellow Auditeer Michael Kropp and his wife Teri. Highlight
of the night came even before the man began to sing, when he recognized Cliff
and me and came over to chat a bit. Oh, I played it cool and all, but as soon
as MC's back was turned I was giddy as a schoolgirl! Been a fan since 1982 and
seen him waaay too many times, so I am glad I am treated like an old friend
rather than a stalker.
Other music news from here?
Just found out that the Pontiac Grille here in Philly (ok, I am technically
not in Philly, but, ya know) will no longer be booking music after the first of
the year. Poo!
Pleased with my recent purchase of the Matt Pond PA CD and think other folks
on the list would like it too.
Was listening to NPR on the way home from picking up dog food (my how the
rock life has changed...) and was wondering why they were discussing Otis Day for
so long, without refering to The Nights. Then I realized they were talking
about his doppleganger, Opus Dei.
Also a bit of a surprise NPR wise, was their review of and my enjoyment of
the new Detroit Cobras CD, Baby. I remember for the longest time when I was
younger totally prejudging bands by their names, and I guess I still do, because I
was prepared to hear some loud awful rockarocka, but instead was pleasantly
surprised by the gritty female vocals and choices of old obscure covers. Oh
sure it was kinda rockarocka, but in a much more appealing way than I thought.
Think thats it!
Beth
who asks that you check out Cliff's website as he's playing in NYC next week
and I can't go. Won't you keep him company? httP://www.cliffhillis.com.
Thanks!
oh and hey, anyone want to torture me by posting a review of last Friday at
the Lizard Lounge (you know, Candy Butchers, Bleu, John Brodeur)?
