Morning all.
Just a few brief thoughts on the final night of IPO/Philly.
First off: congratulations, as ever, to the irrepressible David Bash for putting together as good a night of pop music as any I've seen for a while.
Honestly, I didn't think we were going to make it through the torrential downpour on the PA Turnpike from Harrisburg last night. But when we arrived, we found Mr. Bash, as warm and as inviting as we remembered him. And we were just in time for Pop As Art, who played a just rocking set.
Next up: Dan Kibler from Philly. Always a treat to see Dan. Even more so in a full band setting with John and Tony from Wayne Supergenius making up two-thirds of the backing band, and our good friend Michael Giblin holding things together on bass. Solid, solid set of tuneful pop.
My band, Milkshake Jones, took the stage spot-on at 10:30 (how do you do that, David??), and we blew through a brief, if incredibly freaking loud 5-song set. Nice to see the heads bobbing in the audience, and some knees jerking in time to the tunes. Always a great and appreciative crowd, you IPOers. :)
Other highlights: Met fellow Auditeer Mark Hershberger, who was manning the merch table. Lovely, lovely fellow. Looking forward to seeing you again very soon.
And you couldn't beat the $2 Red Stripes with a stick! Also, thanks to the barkeep for turning on the DVD of "Sin City," and to Milkshake Jones guitarslinger Mark Burke who nudged me on the shoulder just in time to see Carla Gugino making an ... ahem ... memorable entrance on screen. :)
By 11:30 or 12, we were back on the road. The rain had dissipated, and we made it back to Harrisburg by 1:30 or 2 a.m -- just in time to stay up all night with my four-month-old daughter who was fighting off the mother of all colds and fevers.
Fortified as a I was, though, with good vibes, I greeted the dawn cheerily as little Joely Faye Micek dozed in my arms.

See you guys all again next year.
