Perhaps of special interest to Bay Area Auditeers is news of a one-off
Translator reunion 11/13 at Cafe Du Nord in SF. Info here:

When I moved to SF in 1984 one of the bands I was most excited to see was
Translator. I enjoyed something on all four of their studio albums, but the
first two, Heartbeats & Triggers and No Time Like Now, are particularly good
and withstand the test of time. In fact, in some ways Translator was ahead
of the curve, and may sound even better to contemporary ears unfamiliar with
them in their heyday. I caught them live many times -- including their
swan-song performance at the Paradise Lounge -- and they were consistently
energetic and fiery. Seeing bassist Larry Dekker and drummer Dave Scheff all
the time in my Mission neighborhood was an added thrill. Great players and
nice guys! I wish I could be there.
Heard about this from Steve Barton. He says they'll be selling a rarities
collection at the show as well, which I must get my meaty paws on!
As far as serendipitity goes, when my former band, The Me Decade performed
at IPO in LA back in 2000, we were also lucky enough to play the pre-IPO
show at Highland Grounds (I think that's the name) with three of the six
players already in town. We ended with our own take on Steve's "Everywhere
That I'm Not" just as he walked in the room, standing there, smiling and
taking it all in. A great moment for us.
