Now here's a band I never thought I'd see mentioned on this list!!

Hometown were very short-lived. They only released two albums 'Flying'
(1976) and 'Hometown Band' (1977)...both on A & M. You might want to check
out 'Flying' as it's got some stellar tracks on it as well, though the band
hadn't quite worked out their loose arrangements yet. By the second record
(the self-titled one you have) they'd solidified as a live and recording
act.

Other notable members of Hometown were Doug Edwards (best known as a member
of Skylark with David Foster and whose biggest claim to fame was co-writing
the Top40 hit "Wildflower") and Claire Lawrence best known for his years
with Chilliwack. Keyboardist Robbie King passed away last year.

Even with a Juno Award behind them the Hometown band self-destructed in '79
before another album could be released...leaving Ulrich to fulfill the A & M
contract.

You can look at her bio and extensive musical history as a solo artist and
member of Hometown, Pied Pumkin and UHF in my Encyclopedia here:

Her 1980 solo debut 'Long Nights' is essentially the 3rd Hometown Band album
as it features major musical contributions from Hometown's Claire Lawrence
and Geoff Eyre. Like Shirley Eikhard and Christine McVie, Shari tended to
straddle that line between singer-songwriter and MOR land so the follow up
album in 1981 on A & M ('One Step Ahead') and her 1982 MCA release ('Talk
Around Town') were a little on the schmaltzy side (more Anne Murray and
Barbra Streisand than Hometown Band).

Hope this helps...
