All eight of those titles will pale by comparison when the North Siders finally win it all. It'll be so epochal an event that the City Council will have to add another star to the Chicago flag to commemorate it, alongside the stars for the Fort Dearborn Massacre of 1812, the great fire of 1871, the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, and the Century of Progress World's Fair of 1933.

I just hope that I live long enough to see it. My six-year-old Cubs fan nephew is farther removed chronologically from the last Cubs world championship back in 1908 than are John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the second and third presidents of the United States (who each died in 1826). That's depressing.

But congratulations to the White Sox, anyway. Their starting pitching in October was nothing short of amazing. Like most Cubs fans, my motto is ABC: Anybody But the Cardinals.
