<< PS: Bruce if your reading. I loved your post. I'm not sure what to
add to your thoughtful post. Still thinking...Mainly, I'd love you to
talk and "spam" all you want. >>
I would like to second that, honestly. I don't see anything spammy about
independent artists or labels promoting their work here. There are so few
affordable avenues available to do so that I think it'd be welcomed in a
forum like this. In fact, Bruce's post encouraged me to go and buy something
from Not Lame, and *NOT* because I felt bad but because I was *WAITING* for
NL to start stocking the new Sugarplastic before I placed an order for
several different things I had my eye on. His post just reminded me of it.
BTW I'll add this--my favorite 'power pop' album of the year, by a mile, is
the Argument's "Recess Serenade", which is available at Not Lame. I first
heard them from their excellent rendition of The Cars' "Hello Again" on the
"Substitution Mass Confusion" tribute and got the album, and definitely love
it. Very crisp, pumpy, FOW-style power-pop. It's definitely sunny, top-down
stuff, so avoid if you sit exclusively at the arty and/or jangly ends of the
spectrum, but I thought it was a lot of fun.
Also, re: the "Re: First Favorite Songs" thread, for me it was the Monkees.
I was a tyke in the mid-80s when the Monkees were being re-run on MTV, and
one of the various permutations of their greatest hits was my very first
cassette, which I loved to play in my oversized, tan Fisher Price tape
player. I can't remember if I had a favorite. --Jason
